Amazonas

The river as road, the forest as city

Duration:6 daysIntensity:ModerateGroup:2–8Base city:Manaus (AM)Best months:Jun · Jul · Aug · Sep · Oct · Nov

Six days on the Rio Negro: low-impact lodges, flooded forests, riverside communities and nights where the forest makes its own sound.

The Amazon is not scenery: it is the largest tropical forest on Earth and the greatest river system in the world. The journey starts in Manaus — the Amazon Theatre and the floating harbour — and moves onto the Rio Negro: low-impact lodges, flooded forests crossed by canoe, riverside communities and nights where the forest makes its own sound. Operated with regional guides and certified partners, paced for wildlife watching and for silence.

What the days look like

  • River navigation and nights in lodges on the Rio Negro
  • The Meeting of the Waters from the water
  • Flooded forests and giant water lilies at Janauari
  • Riverside communities and craft at Novo Airão
